1. Could you give us a brief on how the idea for the brand started? Was it always in the making?
ZZ Architects was born from a shared belief that great design is about more than what meets the eye; it’s about creating experiences. From the very beginning, Ar. Krupa Zubin and Ar. Zubin Zainuddin have been deeply involved in every project, ensuring that their passion and personal touch shape every detail. It was never about building a brand but about building a philosophy—one rooted in quality, finish, and timeless aesthetics. As we often say, “Often it’s the invisible nuances that make the visible difference.”

2. Over the years, how do you think the architecture and design industry has transformed?
The industry has become more collaborative and personal. Today, luxury is defined by detail, craft, and emotion rather than excess. While technology plays an essential role, we find that true luxury lies in the balance—knowing when to rely on technology and when to let craftsmanship shine. We are fortunate to collaborate with some of the finest brands and artisans globally, whose expertise helps us execute projects that are deeply meaningful.

3. Could you share about some projects which are particularly close to your heart?
The projects closest to our hearts are those built on trust and shared vision. Many of our most cherished projects are homes we’ve designed for families who return to us—across generations and geographies—because they value our process. Whether it’s a serene weekend home or a meticulously detailed urban residence, the joy is in crafting spaces where every corner reflects a piece of the client’s story.

4. What would your dream home be like?
A dream home should evoke a feeling—of warmth, of belonging, of tranquility. It would be a space where craftsmanship meets character and where every material and finish has been chosen with care. It would also be a place where technology exists quietly, seamlessly enhancing the experience without overpowering it. Above all, it would be a home that feels lived-in and loved.

5. What keeps you inspired to continue your work?
Our greatest inspiration is the journey itself—each project, each conversation, and each challenge. Working closely with clients, understanding their desires, and translating those into reality is a deeply fulfilling process. Equally inspiring is our team, whose dedication pushes boundaries every day. As Haruki Murakami once said, “When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.” Every project transforms us.

6. With time as work expands and the team grows, it’s natural for founders to take up more leadership roles and not be on the ground all the time. How do you feel about that transition?
For us, leadership has never meant distance from the craft. Krupa and Zubin remain deeply involved in every project, from concept to completion. We believe it is this seamless connection—between vision, team, and client—that defines ZZ Architects. While we trust our talented team to bring fresh perspectives, we are always present to ensure the smallest details align with our vision.

7. Do you get any odd requests from your clients which turn out to be fabulous post-execution?
The most delightful moments often emerge from the unexpected. We’ve created secret garden spaces within urban homes, personalized wellness sanctuaries, and even bespoke furniture designed to reflect family heirlooms. What makes these ideas special is how they align with the client’s personality—transforming from a concept into something deeply personal and memorable.

8. If you had a message for your younger self, what would it be?
Trust your intuition, and embrace the journey. It is okay to be selective—to choose projects that resonate with your values. Quality will always matter more than quantity. And above all, cherish the relationships you build—with your clients, your collaborators, and your team. They will shape not only your career but also your life.

9. What learnings can you share with budding designers in the industry?
Focus on the details—the finishes, the materials, the craftsmanship. These are what truly elevate a space. Don’t chase trends; pursue timelessness. Collaborate with artisans, learn from their craft, and let their work enrich your own. Most importantly, listen—to your clients, to your instincts, and to the space itself.
